Cars were once a means of transportation, but in today’s superficial society, they also serve as a status symbol.

This man said in a confessional post on a Facebook page that his Perodua Axia has been quite helpful in weeding out gold-diggers.

He wrote in his post that:

“I saw a post about a 25-year-old driving a Proton Saga with RM100k savings in his bank account. I just want to say, I’m 29 this year and I drive a Perodua Axia, with RM380k in savings.”

“I know it isn’t much but it’s all the money I earned and saved. I didn’t win any lottery.

“Many people have advised me to change my car, including my family, friends and relatives, but I’d always tell them I’ve got no money. Sometimes when I ask a girl out, and I pick them up, and they’d stop calling me after our first date.”

“Some would even question me as to why I’m 29 and still driving an Axia. It made me feel bad about myself by I didn’t let it pressure me from getting a new car.

“To me, this car is just a means of transportation, and I guess, a filter for me to filter out gold diggers. If a girl would only date me based on the car I drive, we wouldn’t have a great ending anyways.

“I’ve seen many of my colleagues earn about RM5,000+ a month but they’d drive a car that requires them to pay about RM1,800 – RM2,000 a month. This amount doesn’t even include maintenance fees, and your car value will depreciate – I feel like it’s such a burden.

“My goal next year is to save up close to RM45,000 and maybe find a partner who would be okay with me driving an Axia. Maybe then, I’ll think about changing a new car.”

Many netizens found it amusing and here’s what some of them said:

“I’m willing to sit in your Axia, but I also can drive you with my BMW, please PM your picture.”

“Your savings goal can continue to increase, but it shouldn’t be a reason for you to not change a car. In life, you don’t have the luxury to consider something for a long period of time. If the woman is actually a good fit for you but you missed your chance then there’s no turning back. Her wanting you to have a better car isn’t wrong. You can save up for everything but you should spend on her!”

“When I first started dating my husband, he only had a motorcycle, I thought he was testing me… I guess I ‘overthought’ it.”

“I guess you do really care about what other people have to say about you. If not, you wouldn’t even complain here.”

As social media users, we’d occasionally stumble across different types of ‘confessions’ on Facebook. Some may be serious, amusing, or outright ridiculous. As it’s an anonymous post, we also remind everyone to take it with a pinch of salt.
