A 24-year-old Malaysian man’s plan to start a new job in Singapore hit a major roadblock after he was caught riding his motorcycle under the influence of alcohol.
According to Kosmo!, the man, identified as Sivam, was stopped by police during an early morning at around 1.12am on May 27.
The incident happened along Jalan Yong Peng–Labis in Johor. When tested, he was found to be intoxicated and was immediately taken to the Yong Peng police station for further investigation.
At the Yong Peng Magistrate’s Court yesterday (June 24), Sivam pleaded guilty to the offence.
The court sentenced him to a one-day jail term, imposed a RM10,000 fine, and suspended his driving license for two years starting from the date of sentencing.
He was charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Sivam was unrepresented in court, and the case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Firdaus Ruslan.
