A 28-year-old lorry driver was handed a hefty fine for moving dozens of livestock without proper authorisation.
Pleaded guilty to transporting goats without permission
R. Surenthiran pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court to transporting 80 live goats from Taiping to Klang, Selangor without written permission from the Perak Department of Veterinary Services (JPV).
The charge was read before Magistrate Mohd. Shazmeer Zamhari, who imposed a fine of RM10,000 and ordered the proceeds from the sale of the goats — totalling RM31,178.40 — to be forfeited.
According to Kosmo!, the lorry used in the offence will be returned upon settlement of the fine.
Caught along expressway in January
The incident took place on 22 January at around 8.24pm, when authorities detected the offence at the North-South Expressway near the Kuala Kangsar toll exit.
Surenthiran was charged under Order 4(1)(a) of the Animal (Control and Eradication of Contagious Abortion and Foot and Mouth Disease) Order 2003, read together with Subsection 36(1)(c)(i) of the Animals Act 1953. The offence carries a maximum fine of RM15,000.
Pleaded for leniency
Surenthiran, who was unrepresented in court, appealed for a lighter sentence, stating that this was his first offence and that he is the sole provider for his mother and sibling.
