A 38-year-old Malaysian man living in Singapore is facing charges in court after he assaulted a female bus driver in Singapore after the bus took a few extra minutes to show up.
Liahne Zaobao reported that the 47-year-old driver was punched at least 6 times on the left side of her head after he boarded the bus, leaving her injured and needing to be sent to the hospital.

He had to wait 11 minutes for the bus to arrive
According to the case, the incident happened around 8am on January 21, while Looi Kai Ye was waiting at the bus stop near Block 141, Tampines Avenue 2.
However, his patience ran out after waiting for about 11 minutes. When the bus finally arrived, he started shouting and assaulted the driver.
During the commotion, one passenger managed to pull him off the bus, while another helped evacuate the other passengers.
The bus driver was later taken to Changi General Hospital for treatment.

He’s facing 5 charges
The police arrested Looi the following day (January 22), and he was later charged and sent to the Institute of Mental Health for a psychiatric assessment.
He appeared in court to face 5 charges, including causing hurt, mischief, and public nuisance.
Looi pleaded guilty to one charge on April 7 (Monday) and was sentenced to 6 weeks in prison. The rest of the charges are still being considered for sentencing.

He has a history of criminal offences
During Looi’s statement, the prosecution revealed that he had a history of multiple criminal offences.
One of these incidents involved hitting a 76-year-old man on September 5, 2023, causing the man to fall and hit his head against a railing, which led to his death in the hospital, as reported by The Straits Times.
Looi was also suspected of pushing a 67-year-old woman, resulting in head injuries, a coccyx fracture, and elbow abrasions. Additionally, he was accused of sexually harassing a 27-year-old woman and breaking into an apartment to urinate.
A psychiatric evaluation showed that Looi has autism and bipolar disorder, but it was determined that he was aware and able to control his actions at the time of the incident.
