On December 24, a local man and a Singaporean woman on a motorcycle sadly lost their lives in a crash at KM 130.1 northbound on the North-South Highway.
In a statement, it was confirmed that Muar District Police received a report from the public about the accident involving a motorcycle.
The passenger was thrown onto the opposite lane
Muar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz, shared that the preliminary investigation showed the accident happened when a 28-year-old local man and his 29-year-old Singaporean passenger were on their way from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur.
When they reached the accident spot, the rider lost control of the motorcycle and slammed into the road divider in the middle of the highway.
As a result of the collision, the rider fell into the right lane, while the female passenger was thrown onto the opposite highway lane, as reported by Berita Harian.
The passenger’s right leg was severed
Both individuals tragically died from their injuries. The rider suffered severe head, right hand, and body injuries, while the passenger had serious head, body, and right leg injuries. Berita Harian also reported that the passenger’s right leg was severed during the crash.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Muar District Police is urging everyone to drive carefully, follow speed limits, and stay alert, especially during holidays and festive seasons. Drive safely and responsibly for the safety of yourself and others on the road.
