Today, we reported of a clip showing two men fighting with each other at the Johor Bahru (JB) checkpoint on Monday, with one of them threatening to assault the other with a wooden stick.

Shortly after the clip went viral, police went on the hunt to arrest the individuals involved, where they managed to nab the man wielding the wooden stick.

Threatened driver over queue cutting

In a statement by Johor Bahru South District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, he said the 30-year-old man was arrested in Skudai at at around 10.30am yesterday (Mar 12).

They also seized the wooden stick used in the viral clip that was found inside the man’s car upon arresting him.

The suspect, who was reportedly angry over the other driver’s act of queue-cutting from the emergency lane during a traffic jam, allegedly got out of his vehicle with a wooden stick to intimidate the other driver.

“He was then brought to the Johor Bahru Magistrate’s Court this morning to facilitate further investigations,” he said.

Raub added the man had two prior criminal records, but does not have a history of drug use and is not on the police’s wanted list.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Additionally, it’s also being probed under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or services, which carries a fine of up to RM50,000, imprisonment of up to one year, or both upon conviction.
