With Chinese New Year less than a week away, many are decorating their homes with all things red in order to usher in the new lunar year along with a dose of good luck.

A local man had the best CNY gift of his life after his act of using a series of numbers scribbled on a Mandarin orange netted him a sum of lottery winnings.

Used ‘8826’ written on mandarin orange

In a Threads post, the man wrote that he had kept a mandarin orange which had ‘8826’ written on it inside the fridge for almost a week.

After the week passed, he felt the inner urge to submit the numbers to Sports Toto as he wanted to try his hand at the lottery.

It later proved to be the best decision of his life as ‘8826’ turned out to be the winning numbers for the third prize, according to Sports Toto’s website.

However, it’s not disclosed how much money he had won.

‘Bro…remember me?’

In the comment section, netizens expressed happiness for the man’s win and congratulated him.
