Children misbehave from time to time, but there are instances where their misdeeds aren’t innocent mistakes, but decisions that carry grave consequences.
A woman was left wondering whether she should report her teenage son to the police after she caught him doing something that was deemed criminal in the eyes of the law.
All seemed well…at first
In an anonymous confession, the woman wrote she had a 13-year-old son from her previous marriage and welcomed a pair of five-year-old twin girls under her care after marrying her second husband.
She said that while her son got along well with his stepfather and stepsisters, he would flare up and spout obscenities whenever his stepsisters disturbed him while he was playing mobile games.
“I’ve tried every method possible to discipline him, be it harsh scolding or calm reasoning. I even told him that if he didn’t change his ways, he would no longer be allowed to live at home,” she added.
Thankfully, her son’s behaviour improved over time, leading the woman to believe he had turned over a new leaf and release her grip on his gaming restrictions.
Voyeurism
Unfortunately, this didn’t last and the woman’s son was back to his old ways, earning him another earful from her after she caught him swearing again.
The next day, the woman was showering when halfway, she noticed someone was using a phone to secretly record her and recognised the device as her son’s.
I was furious, shocked, and completely unable to understand why he would do such a thing. I scolded him harshly at first, but later decided to sit down and have a proper conversation.
“When I asked him why he had secretly filmed me, he initially said it was because I scolded him often. But when I pressed him further, he stammered and could not give a clear explanation.”
In the end, the woman decided not to pursue further and let her son off the hook with a stern warning that his actions were unacceptable and that she would consider going to the police if he did it again in the future.
Not firm enough?
Despite her son’s promise to not repeat his actions, the woman said she has yet to fully put the incident behind her.
She wondered whether she had been too harsh with her son in the past, which in turn caused him to become rebellious.
However, she was quick to acknowledge that being rebellious was no excuse to commit voyeurism.
The woman also asked whether she should give her son another chance to prove himself or take sterner measures such as lodging a police report.
