A two-year-old boy died after being left inside a car for more than nine hours when his mother allegedly forgot to drop him off at a babysitter’s before going to work.

According to The Star, Seremban police chief Assistant Commissioner Azahar Abdul Rahim said the mother, who works as a bank officer, had intended to send her son to a babysitter at around 8am.

However, she allegedly forgot and drove straight to her workplace, leaving the child inside the vehicle.

Only realised after work

The tragedy only came to light at about 5pm when the woman finished work and discovered her son unconscious in the car.

Police received a call from a member of the public at around 6.15pm regarding a toddler who wad found unresponsive inside a white Proton Saga.

Medical personnel arrived at the scene and confirmed that the child had died.

The body has been sent to Rembau Hospital for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.

Investigation ongoing

Police have opened an investigation under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect. The mother has been detained to assist in the investigation.

Authorities have urged the public not to speculate on the case, as it may interfere with ongoing investigations. Anyone with information related to the incident is advised to contact the Seremban District Police Headquarters at 06-603 3222.
