An elderly woman is fearing for her life after illegal moneylenders threatened to pay her a visit if she failed to repay a debt her deceased son owed to them.
Left with no other recourse, she has since sought the help of MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau chief Datuk Seri Michael Chong.

According to The Star and NST, the deceased’s brother, Koh, said his brother had previously borrowed RM100,000 from loan sharks to fund his studies, which was paid off by Koh himself.
On May 27, 2021, the deceased killed himself due to financial pressures during the Movement Control Order (MCO), leaving behind his wife.
Months after his death, the deceased’s mother, Choo, began to be harassed by loan sharks who claimed her son had owed them a huge sum of money.

Choo told reporters that she received a call from a man claiming to be a loan shark on Aug 8, who told her RM46,000 was owed to them.
The loan shark also contacted Koh and threatened to “disturb” Choo if the debt remained unpaid.
I explained that my son died more than four years ago because of debt. How can I pay for something I didn’t borrow?
“I told him I had no money, and my children also said they couldn’t help, but this person kept pressuring and threatening us,” she recounted.
Choo added the loan shark had allegedly used different phone numbers to call and text the family through WhatsApp and even offered to give a “discount” if she paid the debt.
She said she’s fearing for her safety and has lodged a police report over the harassment and turned to the MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau for help.
Chong, who was also present, said the bureau has received countless reports of families being terrorised by loan sharks.
He also called upon the authorities to take strong action against such parties who prey on vulnerable individuals.
