A report claiming that former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had been pardoned was retracted by Utusan Malaysia, citing unverifiable facts, and an apology was issued to readers.

The Vibes reported that the decision to pardon Najib lies with the king, as Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has deferred to his judgment.

Najib is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence and was fined RM210 million for misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd after he was sentenced in August 2022.

He is also facing other charges relating to the 1MDB scandal.
