A man has slammed a government hospital for subjecting him and his injured friend to a lengthy wait time while seeking treatment.

The post has since garnered varied responses from netizens, with some sympathising with the man while others chided him for expecting five-star service from government hospitals.

Queue number was reportedly skipped

In the Threads post, the OP wrote that he went to the Serdang Hospital yesterday (Mar 17) at 8.10pm with a friend who sustained an injury.

He added that both of them waited for a total of four hours, in which his friend’s wound was bleeding throughout but eventually dried up.

The OP then went on to explain how a skipped queue number was the cause for all of their troubles.

“Our queue number was 2093, but the hospital system had already called number 2115. When we asked why our number had been skipped, the staff only told us to continue waiting for the doctor’s call.

“My friend was categorised under the green zone (non-critical injuries), but our queue number continued to be ignored.

“We then approached the counter again and were told our number was not in the system and the staff gave us a new number,” he wrote.

More confusion ensues

At around 11pm, the OP and his friend were finally called, but the situation only got more confusing from there.

According to him, the doctor instructed his friend to see a nurse, despite them having done so already.

“When we asked the doctor again, he said the nurse was supposed to bring us to the X-ray. My friend and I were confused. We were told to wait for our number, but in the end we had to go by ourselves without waiting when we were told to wait earlier.

“They kept sending us back and forth. If they had told us from the start that we needed to go ourselves, we would have been fine.”

The OP also claimed that the doctor blamed him and his friend for not seeking clarification.

Exhausted by the frustrating experience, the OP and his friend eventually left to seek treatment at another health clinic at 12.12am.

What netizens say

In the comment section, there were a handful of netizens, including healthcare workers (HCW), who sympathised with the OP’s situation and said government hospitals have lots of areas to improve, especially its queue system.

On the other hand, some told the OP to suck it up and complain less as his situation was due to harsh realities faced by HCWs such as long working hours and low manpower.
