Malaysian food vloggers, Dawei and Dato’ Tony, went viral last week after an argument with a food vendor at a hawker center. Recently, the duo once again gained attention online after they charged a high amount of shipping fee for their online business.

The shipping fee to East Malaysia alone is RM100.

Some netizens speculated that the duo was making profits from the shipping fee alone. A Malaysian businessman, better known as Sunny Coco, also weighed in on the matter via his Facebook Live and complained about the ridiculously expensive shipping fee.

Sunny said those who do business online will be aware that the shipping fee to Sarawak is RM40 at most.

“I used to ship to Singapore, which was RM50 at most. They charge RM120 for Singapore customers, so they definitely make a lot of profits from there. I don’t want to ruin their business maybe they don’t know how to run it, that’s why they charge a high shipping fee.”

Sunny explained that the current postage is RM10 to West Malaysia, RM30 to East Malaysia, and RM50 to Singapore.

“They make a profit of RM70 for the postage to Singapore. If they sold 100 bags of the food, then they make RM7,000 from the shipping fee alone.”

Dawei and Dato Tony were selling Poon Choi, a Cantonese dish and a festival meal composed of many layers of different ingredients, including meats like beef, pork, lamb, chicken, abalone, and more.

As for what they were selling, Sunny also thought that it was not a good idea to sell Poon Choi at this time when the New Year celebration was still more than a month away. However, based on their postage schedule, all food will be posted before 2025.
