In a marriage, challenges don’t always come only from between husband and wife. Sometimes, interference from surrounding family members can also test the harmony of a relationship.
Facing a similar situation, a woman recently took to social media to vent her frustration over her mother-in-law’s habit of frequently calling her husband, to the point where she feels emotionally distant from him despite sitting right beside him.
I miss him even when he’s next to me
According to mStar, the woman explained that while she understands her husband’s responsibility towards his mother, she feels the constant calls have crossed a line.
I miss my husband even though he’s right next to me. His mother calls him too often, from morning until late at night. No matter the time or place.”
She added that the conversations were often about random, harmless topics.
“Sometimes I overhear them talking about things like letting the cat out of its cage, playing with the neighbour’s dog, or bumping into a relative at the laundromat. Just random topics.”
While she acknowledged that the topics were not serious, the timing and frequency of the calls bothered her.
“Her son is married now. Sometimes it’s not the right time or place. It instantly kills the mood. And it doesn’t happen once or twice. It’s almost every day.”
Husband visits his mother twice every day
The woman also shared that her husband visits his mother’s house daily, before work and after work.
There were times he came home just to have dinner with me, then left again to go back to his mother’s house, only returning at 4am.”
She stressed that she does not want to break the bond between mother and son, but feels her mother-in-law’s behaviour is excessive, leaving her feeling sidelined as a wife.
“My husband spends more time with his family than with me. And even when he’s with me, his mother still calls. I love my mother-in-law, but her behaviour makes me feel uncomfortable and distant from my husband.”
Unable to keep bottling up her feelings, she said she plans to discuss the matter with her husband to find a solution.
