The wonders of travelling are really in expanding one’s mind to experience new cultures, customs, understand the people of whichever country it is you are visiting on a deeper level. However, such an adventure can also open your eyes and make you more appreciative of the things we have back home.

Malaysian content creator who goes by Natalie Narrated online recently shared a TikTok video to her page @natalienarrated that has been making waves after she visited an undisclosed country in the West, and communicated a rather interesting fact that countries overseas lack in comparison to our home.

“We might be considered a third world country or a developing country, but I want you all to thank the government right now for providing public toilets everywhere!” said Natalie.

Commenting on her experience, Natalie embellished on how some public areas overseas, such as the light-rail transit (LRT) stations, do not have bathrooms.

Speaking on a specific instance, Natalie shared how she and her aunt needed to relieve themselves while out shopping, and went to a store in an attempt to use their bathroom. However, the store clerks denied them usage only until they bought an item, even after the duo tried to appeal to their conscience.

“They said we needed to show them a receipt first. Out of spite, we bought a water bottle and showed the receipt to someone else,” added Natalie.

In concluding her thoughts, Natalie opined that the Malaysian government is considerate and thoughtful enough to put the basic necessity of a toilet in most public places to be freely and conveniently used.

“I know you have to pay for some of them, but usually, on your daily commute, you can find one that you can use for free,” she said at the end of the clip.

Originally stunned by her thoughts, a few commenters questioned how such a situation is likely.

Wait, so all the people commuting might have to hold it in for the whole ride?” asked one user, to which Natalie affirmed and continued by saying that they would have to reach their home or a shopping mall to access one.

However, a number of other Malaysians also shared their experiences having travelled overseas, saying that they had come across the matter first-hand, as there are barely any bathrooms in most public areas.

The toilet one is so real! I hated not having accessible toilets when travelling, so I was always dehydrated. Never happens to me when I’m in Malaysia though, because I know I can always find a toilet,” wrote another commenter.

Adding to the discussion, a few users also mentioned how some of these countries don’t even possess a bidets in their toilet stalls as well.

One of the most fruitful comments of the bunch came from a user who shared a positive experience of using a public bathroom in Malaysia, which happened to be at a place of worship.

“Last time, I couldn’t hold it anymore, and I asked a nearby church if I could use their toilets,” added the commenter.

I know there’s rules in place in other countries, and when in Rome, follow the rules there but… I’m just saying we gotta appreciate where it counts kan
