At an event during the weekend, Malaysian singer and YouTuber, Choo Haoren, recorded himself singing the national anthem, and playfully filmed his Steady Gang members, Ahya, and Tomato.

The video went viral on social media, with many Malaysians deeming it inappropriate, as it was perceived as a form of disrespect towards Negaraku.

Haoren was well aware of the online criticism, and last night (August 10), the singer publicly apologised for his behaviour through his social media post, admitting that it was inappropriate. Haoren also said that he should’ve sung the national anthem with utmost respect.

“I deeply regret the discomfort that my immature behavior caused the public.”

In the video, while filming his team members, Haoren was also heard pausing in between, asking his member next to him to sing the national anthem.

He added that he knew the national anthem was not only a symbol of the country but also carried solemn historical significance and evoked emotional identification among all citizens. In his apology statement, Haoren also expressed that he has deeply reflected on his improper behaviour at the time.

“I promise that I will behave better and appropriately, especially in all formal and public occasions in the future.”

“I sincerely thank the public for their warning and understanding. Once again, I offer my sincerest apologies to all my friends who care about me for the inconvenience this incident has caused.”
