In almost every Asian household, passing the exam with flying colours means an honour to the entire family and if one were to fail any subjects or not achieve satisfactory results, it could mean being banished from the family.

Jokes aside, students who were patiently waiting for their SPM exam results were jubilated as outcomes were announced yesterday June 16.

However, one student who shared his SPM results in a Facebook group 槟城吹水站 shocked netizens. Instead of being scored with either a good grade or a bad grade, he obtained a “tidak hadir” (absent) status for every single subject!

“Got my results but I don’t have the guts to go home,” the student wrote in his caption.

That’s a major loss

It did not take long for his post to gain the attention of fellow Malaysians who had a lot to say about his complete absence for the most important examination for a Malaysian high school student.

A few of them criticised him for not cherishing the opportunity to study hard and smart.

“I feel sorry for your parents.”

A netizen expressed his regret over the result and wished the student all the best in his future endeavours.

“We couldn’t afford to study even if we wanted to in the past, but (the) new generations really do not appreciate the chances given to them.”

“You’re gonna regret this someday, 5 years later.”

“It’s not funny, but it’s your choice. I hope you’ll make it someday, good luck.”

“SPM is the last exam in high school and if you flunk it, then you’re done. I wish the best for you.”

“How would future employers hire you when you didn’t even attend the exam? How would they know if you’re responsible? Unless you have a family business, you have a long way to go.”

Experience >| result

In the meantime, other netizens asked the student to not worry too much about his SPM result as they believe it does not define one’s entire future.

“Go home, kid. As long as you work hard, you’ll make it someday. Good luck!”

“It’s fine if you’re not an academic, but do work hard and don’t be lazy in the future.”

“Honestly, how much will the knowledge (from school) and (exam) results help you in the future? I’ve seen university graduates earn as much as SPM graduates. Why not just start working early and ditch the (typical) education plan if it’s all pretty much the same?”

Regardless of the reactions, we sincerely wish the student will do well in the future despite his results. It is definitely not the end of the world for him as long as he works hard.

We’re no one to judge his result. What do you think he can do after this to pick himself up again?
