Today, we reported of a double murder case that occurred in Melaka, where a primary school teacher and her eldest son were found dead inside their home.

The victims were 51-year-old primary school teacher Vernita Boon, and her eldest son, 21-year-old Lim Boon Kai. Her youngest son, aged 13, was found lying injured in front of the house and is currently being treated at the hospital.

While it was initially thought to be an act of a robbery turned bloody, an unexpected twist has taken place in the story—where Boon’s second son, aged 17, is believed to be behind the murders.

Neighbours recall frequent arguing

According to media reports, Boon was living with her three sons and husband before he passed away from an illness six months ago.

Neighbours who were interviewed by China Press said they would sometimes hear Boon’s family arguing with one another. Even after Boon’s husband’s died, the arguments didn’t stop.

They also admitted that they didn’t hear or see anything unusual on the night of the murders as they were still asleep at the time.

The Chinese daily also reported that the tragedy was allegedly triggered by the pressure Boon had placed on her sons in recent days.

Second son believed to be mastermind behind murders

China Press reported that Boon’s second son was allegedly kicked out from the house yesterday (June 11) following an argument and went to stay elsewhere.

When he returned home at 5am, he discovered his mother and brothers in a bloodied state and immediately contacted a friend to inform them of what had happened.

Boon’s second son was later detained by police who arrived at the scene after they were alerted of the incident.

Police told Sin Chew Daily that initial investigations confirmed the tragedy stemmed from a family conflict and are probing the case as a suspected matricide.

They also added that they’re not ruling out the possibility of mental health issues being involved in the case as well.
