We can all remember the feeling of anticipation that we get when approaching the final day of our school semesters, with the term holiday dawning upon us. Counting down the hours to freedom, nothing quite compares to the thrill and exhilaration of not having to worry about waking up early for classes or finishing any homework.
M’sian teacher shares how her students fondly bid her goodbye before going on holiday
In the case of public school teacher Ms Gayathiri Chandra, she recently won over the hearts of many Malaysian social media users after sharing how her students adorably bid her farewell before leaving for their school holiday.
Instead of a mad rush for the door, many of them could be seen going up to her desk before greeting her with a traditional ‘salam‘ gesture by kissing her hand, and wished her goodbye.
Some even gave her an enthusiastic hug, wriggling in with a smidge of effort while carrying their schoolbags. One boy went so far as to playfully choke her around the neck after embracing her in a tight squeeze.
Having been viewed a total of 369,300 times as of writing since it was uploaded 4 days ago, it is clear that Malaysian netizens have been left endeared by the clear expression of affection that the young children had for their schoolteacher. Many have commended on the close bond that the students clearly shared with Gayathiri.
“How nice of the students to ‘salam’ their teacher.”
“You must be a good teacher, that’s why your students love you.”
“How sweet to see the teacher with her students, and her students also look like they’re very comfortable around her!”
Naturally, the boy who was seen playfully choking Gaithiry has also caught the eye of a few commentors.
“Why did that one student choke her? He must be really excited!”
“Ya robi, look at how casually he chokes his own teacher hahahahaha! Back in my time, I wouldn’t even dare to look my teacher in the eye!”
“The one who choked his teacher must be annoyed at how much he loves his teacher!”
Teaching with passion
In speaking with WauPost, Gayathiri explained that she had shared the video to show audiences how her students understood both the values of love and respect, in spite of their tender age.
“Although my students are only 7 years old, they already know how to respect teachers.” she points out.
As an educator who has been teaching for three and a half years, she describes her working experience as fun, and notes that she has learned a lot from her students in the time that she has worked in the field. Naturally, she hopes that the next generation of Malaysians will be more respectful and caring of one another, regardless of differences between race or ethnicity.
“On the other hand, I also hope they will be able to contribute to the peace and development of our country.”
