A male tuition teacher has reminded parents to teach their children about personal space and boundaries after an incident involving one of his young female students.
According to the teacher, the student had not seen him for a long time and rushed towards him because she missed him.
However, the situation left him feeling uneasy as he felt that boundaries between male teachers and female students should still be maintained.
Student wanted to hug him because she missed him
The teacher said the student came to class and immediately ran towards him.
Today, a female student whom I have not seen in a long time came to class. She rushed towards me because she wanted to hug me as she missed me,” he wrote.
According to mStar, he was shocked by the gesture.
While he understood that the student had no bad intentions, he said it was still important to maintain proper boundaries, especially between male teachers and female students.
Urged parents to teach children about boundaries
The teacher then urged parents to educate their children about personal space from a young age.
He added that such awareness is important for the safety of students, especially children aged 7 to 10.
According to him, children should be taught how to recognise uncomfortable or unsafe situations, as well as how to protect themselves when needed.
“These boundaries are important to protect students’ safety. Especially those aged 7 to 10. We must remember that we cannot trust just anyone,” he said.
