Childhood is like this big cozy quilt of memories and hidden in its comfy patches, there’s always that one thing you can’t part with. It could be a cool toy, a snugly blanket, or, for this little guy, his special pillow.
In a recent TikTok video from @mekda95, a little one can be seen hugging his pillow for dear life as his father makes an attempt to wash the old thing. When asked, she candidly reveals that this pillow has been his best friend since the very beginning.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, she revealed, with a bit of humor, about the challenges of trying to get her growing son to part ways with his beloved pillow.
Despite the parents’ sneaky attempts of removing and hiding it, it’s no surprise to why it’s become a funny thing with him worrying it might magically vanish.
“My son has always had this fear that we would hide his favorite pillow. We can’t blame him because we’ve actually tried doing that before since he was getting too old to have a ‘bantal busuk’.”
Describing the pillow as a “map” due to the saliva stains that her son inexplicably loves, she shared that he has developed a liking for and grown immune to the smell of the pillow. She also revealed that the son would go to the extent of preventing the parents from washing his pillow to preserve its smell.
As the video circulates, netizens decide to join in, sharing their own experiences of holding onto their equivalent of a “bantal busuk”.
“I’m 28, and I still have my ‘bantal busuk’. If the smell of my pillow goes away, I’d probably cry.”
“My equivalent of ‘bantal busuk’ is actually a blanket. I can never sleep whenever I’m at a hotel or elsewhere; I’d always take it with me.”
“I have a ‘bantal busuk’. I always let my relatives use it whenever they sleep over. If they knew, they would probably stop coming to my house.”

As adults, we face the same challenge of saying goodbyes. Much like the little one holding onto his pillow, we often find ourselves emotionally attached to mementos from our past because it’s familiar.
