A Malaysian vendor sustained head injuries after allegedly being beaten by illegal photographers in the KLCC area on Monday (23 March).
The vendor’s friend, influencer and teacher Mohd Fadli Salleh, took to Facebook to share how the victim sustained these injuries while reportedly attempting to stop the group from assaulting tourists.
Details of the altercation
Mohd Fadli Salleh wrote: “My friend’s head was split open after he was beaten with a weapon, I am unsure of the specific object, near KLCC yesterday. This was the work of a gang of illegal photographers. It is a large group, consisting of dozens of people. At the time, they were brawling with foreign tourists and had begun beating them.”
“My friend, a drinks vendor, happened to be nearby and tried to break up the fight. The gang turned on him as a group and beat him as well,” he added.
Two individuals, including Mohd Fadli Salleh’s friend, reportedly sustained head injuries. The two victims required seven and two stitches, respectively. He added that the assailants attacked the vendor from behind and intentionally damaged his stock of drink containers.
Official report and ongoing concerns
Following the incident, a police report was filed. Mohd Fadli Salleh highlighted that despite numerous previous complaints regarding the illegal photographers around KLCC, the group remains active.
The influencer stated:
“This gang seems ‘immune’; they continue to operate while threatening and physically assaulting people. They are the reason tourists look down on Malaysia. I hope the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will be stricter in cracking down on this syndicate. They are damaging the country’s image.”
