A 67-year-old woman was found dead in her home earlier this month, and what was initially classified as a sudden death is now reclassified as murder after an autopsy report shows suspicious injuries on the deceased’s body.

The deceased woman’s 36-year-old son, and his 37-year-old girlfriend were detained by the police on suspicion of being involved in the murder.

According to Assistant Commissioner Dr Bakri Bin Haji Zainal Abidin, the Chief Police of Hilir Perak district, the female suspect had admitted to murdering the senior citizen due to a misunderstanding. Both suspects also tested positive for drugs, and the female suspect will be charged with murder in court today (July 30).

On July 15, Bakri said the police received a report about the death of the 67-year-old woman, who was said to have allegedly fallen unconscious at home. The deceased’s son also informed police that his mother was pronounced dead at the hospital and her body was subsequently transferred to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Ipoh.

However, the autopsy report revealed suspicious injuries, prompting police to re-classify the case as murder.

In reports by China Press and Sin Chew, it is revealed that the son initially worked in Singapore before returning to Perak to stay with his mother in 2022. The deceased’s husband had passed away in 2023.
