Buying your first car is supposed to be a happy milestone, especially when you’ve spent years saving up for it.
However, a woman’s excitement quickly turned into disappointment after her own brother scolded her for buying a car instead of helping to settle their mother’s old debt.
Finally bought her first car after 10 years
According to mStar, the 32-year-old woman shared her experience on Threads, explaining that she had been travelling to work on a motorcycle for 10 years.
After working since the age of 21, she finally managed to purchase her first car, a Perodua Axia, in her 11th year of employment.

Although it was a modest car, the purchase marked a major achievement after years of hard work.
Unfortunately, her happiness was short-lived.
Brother told her to pay mother’s debt
Shortly after buying the car, the woman received a call from her brother, who informed her that their mother had an outstanding debt.
He told her that the siblings would have to contribute money to settle it.
However, the woman explained that she was already managing several financial commitments and could not afford to take on another expense.

Apart from her new car, she was also saving for her wedding while covering daily expenses such as food and petrol.
She added that her savings were only enough to support her own needs.
Instead of understanding her situation, her brother reportedly raised his voice and reminded her that he had previously warned her against buying a car.
‘Is it wrong for me to buy a car?’
Feeling hurt by her brother’s reaction, the woman questioned whether she had done anything wrong by purchasing something she had worked towards for years.
She pointed out that she had started working at 21 and only managed to afford her first car at 32.
Her experience drew various reactions from netizens, with many sympathising with her situation.
Some encouraged her to stand firm and prioritise her own financial responsibilities before agreeing to help settle the debt.
Others questioned why she was expected to take responsibility for her mother’s outstanding payments.
A few also criticised her brother’s reaction, suggesting that he should have been more understanding of her financial circumstances.
