Chicken rice is a popular choice of meal among Malaysians not only due to its tastiness, but also affordability. However, wallet-friendly chicken rice seems to be getting harder to come by as of late.
A woman was left stunned after an order of what most would deem to be the most basic version of chicken rice came at a price tag of RM12.60, inclusive of tax.
RM12.60 for ‘basic’ chicken rice
In a Facebook post, the woman named Chee YB wrote that she was charged RM12.60 for a takeaway order of chicken rice which came with chicken breast, cucumbers, and coriander garnish.
According to the receipt, the base price of the chicken rice was RM10.90, and Chee was charged an additional RM1 for takeaway. After the inclusion of 6% Sales and Service Tax (SST), the final amount came to RM12.60.

Chee admitted in the caption that she didn’t inquire about the price beforehand as she never expected it to exceed RM10.
I guess I was just too naive because rice with roasted chicken breast in this area usually costs no more than RM10.”
Although Chee didn’t mention the stall’s location, she revealed that it wasn’t a restaurant nor a food court, adding that it was a non-air conditioned kopitiam.
Reactions
Some netizens were shocked by the receipt, saying that the price was exorbitant and urged Chee to lodge a complaint with the authorities.

However, the issue also once again sparked the debate of who should bear the blame, with one arguing that customers who don’t inquire about prices before ordering should shoulder a portion of it.
