A Malaysian netizen has taken to Twitter to voice her concerns about a restaurant’s smoke exhaust system, which she claims will release ‘pork lard steam’ that lands on passersby’s clothes.

The user also questioned the approval of such a system and urged the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to take action on the matter.

The original tweet read:

The smoke of the restaurant comes out of the steam chimney, releases pork oil and lands on our clothes… The problem is who approves that chimney heading forward?

Slammed By Netizens For Insensitivity

The tweet, which has garnered over 377k views at press time, raises concerns about the restaurant’s smoke exhaust placement and its impact on the surrounding environment and pedestrians.

However, the complaint has also received mixed opinions online. While some users agreed with the concern raised and called for stricter regulations and better enforcement of existing rules, others argued that the issue may be exaggerated and that businesses should be allowed some flexibility in their operations.

“Sister, when walking near smoke like this, please cover your nose and mouth, and open an umbrella so that you don’t inhale it, accidentally eat it, or get it stuck on your clothes.”
