It’s quite common to notice many individuals in Malaysia picking up Mandarin as an additional language, given its high demand. However, it’s rather uncommon to see people of other ethnicities conversing in Tamil here in Malaysia.

A TikTok video went viral after @julianapija, the daughter of the woman who speaks fluent Tamil in the video, uploaded a glimpse of her mother conversing with neighbors. The video has garnered over 897K views within 2 days of posting.

In the video, 61-year-old Hasimah Saman was seen warmly coaxing her neighbors to eat. They conversed with each other in Tamil, showcasing a heartwarming moment of cultural connection.

“My mother loves them like their own”

Speaking to WeirdKaya, the daughter of Hasimah, Juliana, shared that her mother picked up the language naturally after growing up in Taiping, Perak. This allowed her to be around Indians in a daily basis, and also listening to them speak in Tamil.

Our family is very close to them, as my late dad was very close with them. It’s as if we are a family, though we are not connected by blood; our bond is strong.
