Not wanting to pay the fee necessary to replace her lost MyKad, a single mother resorted to claiming that she had become a victim of snatch theft.
However, her story soon fell apart like a house of cards after police discovered that the snatch theft never took place at all.
Lied to police
NST reported that Keranjeet Kaur Shivinder, a single mother of two, lodged a police report at the Cyberjaya police station in Sepang, Selangor, at 12.37pm on Sept 15.
In the report, she claimed two men on a motorcycle snatched her handbag in Kampung Jorak Elahi, Bukit Pasir, on Sept 12 at 11.20pm.

As she result, she allegedly lost her identity card, bank cards, house keys and RM210 in cash.
When police conducted investigations and questioned Keranjeet on Sept 18, she folded and admitted to lying about the snatch theft.
She also revealed the reason she lied was because she wanted to obtain a replacement MyKad without paying the required fee after misplacing hers.
Fined RM1,000
At the Batu Pahat magistrate’s court, Keranjeet pleaded guilty to lodging a false police report under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to six months, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

Magistrate Mustaqim Sukarno ordered Keranjeet to be fined RM1,000 in default of five months in jail. She paid the fine.
