Government hospitals are frequently in the limelight, with ongoing discussions about improving facilities and enhancing the quality of care.
With that being said, recently a Malaysian woman highlighted the poor conditions at a government hospital in Johor Bahru where her grandfather was admitted.
“This looks super dodgy and sad.”
Taking to her X account, @anifaresailma shared a tweet describing how she was horrified upon seeing the condition of the facilities at the government hospital where her unwell grandfather was recently admitted.
“I’m sorry, but what is this government hospital?? It seems really dodgy and sad.” she wrote in her tweet.
In the same post, she pointed out that her grandfather, having served as a government servant, is entitled to a first-class room.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to secure a first-class room due to all the rooms being occupied.
“All his years as a customs officer feel like they count for nothing. Malaysia, do better.” she said in her tweet.

In a few photos that she uploaded, there is a room that appear dilapidated, and a table corner that seems crooked.
Following this, she tweeted again under the same post asking the government hospital to step up its game.

Many Malaysians in the comments have shared their own experiences.
“Many have tweeted the same thing, but there is still no improvement. It’s the same, hey there.”
“”This is the thing that I question the most as a Malaysian. I went to Kajang’s health clinic, and the condition was awful! Even a cat fell from the roof, creating a hole. It’s 2023! What improvements has the government made in terms of medical facilities? Everyone’s driving different cars, but what about healthcare?”
Also, some netizens suggested that there might be other reasons why her grandfather didn’t get the first-class room.
“I believe the first-class rooms were all occupied by COVID patients because the number of COVID cases is increasing. When I was about to give birth, I had COVID, and I had to stay in quarantine in a first-class ward for almost a week before and after delivery, while my baby was quarantined in another hospital because the ward was far from the regular ones. The corridor was eerily quiet, and hardly anyone dared to pass through except for the nurses who came to give medication and food upon request. Getting a change of clothes was also a challenge – had to ask in the morning, and only received them at night. Doctors visited once a day, and it really felt like being neglected.”
On the other hand, some netizens also has expressed a different perspective, stating that government hospitals have improved and sharing their positive experiences.
“Sorry to hear this from you. I believe most government hospitals have seen improvements and are comfortable. Maybe this particular hospital hasn’t reached that level yet (I also don’t know). I was admitted three times last year, and I was comfortable with the facilities.”
