A Malaysian woman sparks debate after claiming she paid RM16 for an iced chocolate made with premix powder, raising questions about pricing and quality.
AFTER paying a high price for a simple drink, one would expect a higher quality to reflect the price but unfortunately, it is not the case in certain instances these days.
It is understandable to charge a higher amount for certain drinks especially considering the rising costs of ingredients, alongside manual labour and utilities taken into account, but it begs the question of how much is too much?
This can be said after a Malaysian woman recently aired her grouses in a Threads post after alleging to have paid a hefty RM16 for an iced chocolate drink.
Naturally, for that price, one would expect high quality ingredients used to make the drink but in this case, the woman claimed that the seller had used a premix powder for the RM16 beverage.
“After paying for the drink, I asked the cashier if they used 60% to 100% dark chocolate and she replied ‘we use a premix,” she said in her post.
The woman further alleged that she had purchased the iced chocolate drink from a stall set up at a parking space. The location was not disclosed.
“Not all premix powders are bad. its just that the price is not on par with the quality.
“Are they crazy selling a drink using a premix at RM16? DId they buy the premix at RM100 per kilogram?” she questioned.
Netizens shared the woman’s frustrations, also sharing their alleged experiences of getting ripped off after paying near exorbitant amounts for low-quality ingredients in their drinks.
“I once supported a newly-opened cafe. I ordered an iced chocolate and you know, they poured chocolate milk from a carton into a cup and charged me RM12. I’m so done,” a user said.
“Same here. Spent RM12 for instant coffee and fresh milk. The shop did not even use an espresso mix. I was so mad,” commented another.
“It makes me so furious to find out that certain shops use premixes for their drinks. i might as well support the capitalists. At least I will get my money’s worth with real coffee and real milk,” remarked another.
