A family’s budget-friendly approach to their children’s school expenses has garnered widespread admiration on social media.

In a heartfelt Facebook post by Abdul Muiez, a local teacher described the daily sacrifices made by his wife, who wakes up at 4.30 am to ensure their children have nutritious lunches to take to school, emphasizing the value of saving and careful spending.

“Our daily budget for the children’s expenses is RM3 each, which might not seem like a lot,” Muiez wrote.

“It’s RM1 for the morning session, RM2 for the afternoon. Multiplied by four, that’s RM12 a day. Yes, it’s a small amount, but my wife makes substantial sacrifices. She rises at dawn to prepare a full lunchbox—rice, dishes, fruit, and water. The rice container must be full; after all, our children are growing.”

Muiez shares how they manage their children’s school expenses on a tight budget, allotting RM3 per child for daily spending.

Despite the modest amount, the children are taught to value every ringgit—saving where they can and even sharing their home-cooked meals with friends.

The post also highlighted the heavier appetites of their teenagers, “The high schoolers, especially, have bigger appetites.”

“The RM3 they take is often spent entirely on snacks at the canteen. They might only eat again late at night.”

Muiez’s expression of love and appreciation for his wife’s efforts was evident, “It’s how we save, but indeed, my wife makes great sacrifices. It’s not just about waking up early. She also sleeps early, by 9 pm she’s out. I love my wife immensely.”

The online community has responded with over 10k likes and numerous supportive comments, celebrating the couple’s commitment to teaching their children the importance of money management and the unseen daily sacrifices that go into parenting.
