M'sian Woman's Axia Bursts Into Flames While Driving Along Penang Bridge
A 29-year-old woman had a close brush with serious injuries and possible death after her Perodua Axia suddenly caught fire on the Penang Bridge.

NST reported that the fire destroyed 40% of the vehicle but thankfully no one was hurt in the incident.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director John Sagun Francis said the department received an emergency call at 3.07am today (Aug 10) about the fire, which occurred at Km1.4 of the bridge, from the island towards Prai.

11 minutes later, firefighters from the Prai Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control at 3.20am.

“Firefighters conducted a size-up before carrying out control and extinguishing operations using the direct attack method.

“The fire was successfully extinguished at 3.26am, followed by overhaul operations before the case was handed over to the Fire Investigation Officer (FIO) for further action,” he said.

Cause unknown

John added the cause for the fire remains unknown for the time being, but said the fire involved the Axia’s engine compartment.

With the assistance of police and Plus Malaysia Bhd, the operation wrapped up at 4.28am.
