A family in Taiping, Perak, were left frantic and worried after one of their members vanished without a trace and wasn’t heard from for close to two weeks.
However, in a bizarre twist, the woman later came forward and clarified she was safe and sound, adding that no one had coerced her into leaving her home.
Went missing on June 16
According to Sinar Harian, Norafiza Zainuddin was last seen leaving her family’s home in Taiping after telling them she was going to attend a job interview at a hotel in Kuala Kangsar on June 16.
Her younger brother told the Malay daily that the family realised something was amiss when Norafiza didn’t return home later that night.
Multiple attempts were made to contact her but failed as her phone was switched off.
A police report was lodged at the Kamunting Police Station on June 18, before another report was made at the Taiping District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further action.
Norafiza’s car was later sighted in Padang Rengas, where it was found to be in a good condition with her keys and personal belongings inside.
Her brother added that Norafiza had divorced earlier this year and was living with her family in Taiping.
‘Leave me alone’
In a surprising twist, Norafiza stepped forward and gave her statement to the police at the Kajang Police Station at 3pm yesterday (June 28).
According to Taiping acting district police chief Superintendent Mohd Ariffridzuan Ezahar, he said Norafiza flatly denied claims that she had been kidnapped from her home, adding that she voluntarily left without being pressured by anyone.
Norafiza also told her family that she wishes to be left alone and not be disturbed.
The authenticity of Norafiza’s statement was verified by police and she was found to be in a safe condition.
The public has also been urged not to speculate or spread false information regarding the case.
