With the number of cars steadily increasing in the country, finding a parking spot can be a huge headache. However, there are places where it’s a big no-no to park, such as pedestrian walkways.

A Malaysian senator recently earned the wrath of netizens after his car was photographed being parked on a pedestrian walkway and subsequently went viral on social media.

In a post shared by @JimmyNaj on X (formerly Twitter) yesterday (Jul 24), it showed a red Proton vehicle being parked smack right in the middle of the pedestrian walkway at an undisclosed location.

As a result of the indiscriminate form of parking, those using the walkway were forced to walk around the vehicle as their path was severely restricted.

Another photo showed a close-up of the car number plate, which showed a crest attached to the car plate along with the words ‘Ahli Parlimen Malaysia’ (Member of Parliament Malaysia) written on it.

In the caption, @JimmyNaj slammed the owner of the car, saying that he could have paid for parking with the monthly allowance he’s given as an MP.

Netizens also shared in his anger and frustration over the matter and left their thoughts in the comments.

‘Not surprised. A lot of MPs aren’t educated in their morals.’

A netizen went a step further, suggesting that someone should puncture the car tyres to teach the owner a lesson. (Pro-tip: Don’t do it)

Some even took it upon themselves to do some sleuthing, where they eventually discovered that the car belonged to a senator named Mohd Hasbie Muda.

Senator apologises

Shortly after the tweet blew up, Hasbie, who is also Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Youth chief, acknowledged that he was indeed the owner of the car and issued an apology.

As the owner of the vehicle, I deeply regret what happened and take full responsibility. I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused and am willing to accept any fine.

Following his apology, netizens seemed to be more forgiving and applauded him for owning up to his mistake.
