It was recently announced that Microsoft will invest RM10.5 billion to build cloud and AI infrastructures in Malaysia over the next 4 years.
This will mark the biggest investment Microsoft has done in it’s 32-year existence in Malaysia.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil took to his Twitter page to share further details into the investment, which includes a whopping 300,000 job opportunities.
He wrote, “Another big investment achieved! RM10.5 billion from Microsoft and this is Microsoft’s largest investment in Malaysia throughout its 32 years of operations.”
“This successful endeavor will simultaneously open up more than 300,000 job opportunities. InsyaAllah, this momentum is expected to continue as long as Malaysia is well led and has a stable government.”
Though, many Malaysians were confused as to how this investment can provide Malaysians with 300,000 job opportunities in Malaysia when Microsoft a GLOBAL employee count that’s lesser.
“As if there will be 300,000 jobs. Be a bit rational. 10,000 jobs are already considered too many.”
“Be serious, bro. 300,000 job opportunities. This is crazy overclaim by you guys.”
And while he has not clarified things himself, Fahmi Fadzil did repost a potential clarification from a netizen.
“It’s 300,000 job opportunities. Not 300,000 workers being hired under Microsoft.”
“Microsoft is a large company. Many things will become related and many new companies will appear to meet Microsoft’s demand. Before condemning, better check first what ‘job opportunity’ means.”
Perhaps that clears things up.
