Thailand’s popularity among Malaysians as a travel destination is at an all-time high, it seems, as visitors from our country topped the charts of the number of foreign travellers to the Kingdom, with a whopping 4,626,422 visitors, with it expected to be even higher this year.
Moreover, given that our two nations share a land border, many Malaysians opt to bring their own vehicles into Thailand, which was made even easier with the recent extension of the exemption of arrival and departure requirements by the Thai Government.
Malaysians driving to Thailand must now bring the original vehicle grant or be denied entry
However, for those planning to drive a car or ride a motorcycle from Malaysia to Thailand soon, do note that the Thai Customs Department has recently implemented a new requirement at four border checkpoints.
Specifically, the Thai Customs Department is now making it mandatory for Malaysians to have with them the ORIGINAL Vehicle Ownership Certificate (VOC) of the vehicle they’re bringing into Thailand via Bukit Kayu Hitam, Padang Besar, Wang Kelian and Kota Putra.
Copies of the VOC will not be accepted by the Thai Customs Department, and if the owner of the vehicle is not present, the driver is required to have an authorisation letter certified by the Commissioner for Oaths Malaysia.

Failure to do so would mean that the vehicle would be DENIED entry into Thailand.
The new directive was introduced recently
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, a representative from GoThai.my, a company offering insurance and takaful services for Malaysian vehicles entering Thailand, revealed that the new directive was introduced by the Thai Customs Department recently and went into effect immediately.
GoThai.my added that travellers must present the original VOC during the inspection by Thai Immigration and Customs.
Moreover, those who are driving a vehicle not under their name must have the aforementioned authorisation letter certified by the Commissioner for Oaths Malaysia written in English.
