M’sians Praise Country’s 1st Glow in The Dark Road Lines in Semenyih, Want It Installed Nationwide

New glow-in-the-dark road markings have been installed recently in Semenyih, Selangor by the Hulu Langat District Public Works Department (JKR), the first of its kind in Malaysia.

Illuminating the roads of Jalan Sg Lalng B19 and Jalan Sg Tekali B16 when vehicles pass by, the innovative markings were completed on 28 October.

Since then, photos and videos of the glow-in-the-dark road lines have made their rounds on social media, including in a viral post by the Melaka Daily Facebook page.

According to JKR Hulu Langat in a Facebook post, the glow-in-the-dark paint used on these road markings is part of a pilot project in the department’s mission to bring innovation to road engineering.


In the post, JKR Hulu Langat also shared the before and after videos and photos of the new road markings, including how the road lines illuminate in green at night when vehicles pass it by.

In the comments, many Malaysians praised the innovation as it further increased the safety of road users who can see the road markings despite there being no lamp posts in the area.

Many Malaysians urged for the glow-in-the-dark road markings to be expanded nationwide, especially in the interior where there are no street lamps.

Meanwhile, a commenter said that he went through the road in Semenyih recently when it was dark and raining and praised how the road markings helped him see the road better.

Besides that, another commenter called for the road markings to be installed in Sabah as he claimed that when it rains in the state, the regular white road lines can’t be seen.
