The Malaysia FA Cup finals took place on Saturday (August 24), where Johor Darul Ta’zim went against Selangor and won for the 4th year in a row!

However, Malaysians are more focused on an odd aspect of the match.

The Sukanz TikTok page recently showcased how our national anthem was played at the game while a Palestine-themed tifo (a visual display made by sports teams at tournaments) was raised by the Selangor fan club, Ultras Selangor (UltraSel).

They wrote, “A ‘no surrender’ tifo by UltraSel.”

While many considered the display as a nice gesture of solidarity with Palestine, others were unhappy that a foreign flag was being raised while the Malaysian national anthem, Negaraku, was being played.

Some even called for action to be taken by the authorities as they deemed the display disrespectful to our country.

“I don’t understand. They’re playing ‘Negaraku’ but (raising) someone else’s flag.”

“Playing ‘Negaraku’ but using Palestine’s flag. Where is Malaysia’s flag?”

“This is an act of betrayal against our country. PDRM must take action against the organisers. This is too extreme.”

“Has the Malaysian flag been changed?”

Malaysians ultimately believe that, while showing solidarity with Palestine is fine, the Malaysian flag; the Jalur Gemilang, should take priority and be raised first in such situations, especially during our independence month.
