THE interpretation of critical matters relating to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), including the parliamentary seat quotas for Sabah and Sarawak and the continental shelf, is expected to be finalised by May, according to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Fadillah, who also serves as the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, stated that the issues would be discussed and refined at the upcoming Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63) meeting.
“The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, alongside Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
“Together, they will address the direction we need to take, as there are still unresolved differences in the interpretation of the law at both the federal and state levels on these matters," Bernama cited Fadillah saying. "We aim to reach a decision, but if that’s not possible, further consultations will be held.”
Fadillah was speaking to the press following the closing ceremony of the Ihya Ramadan Camp at the Malaysia Institute of Islamic Skills Sarawak (IKMAS) earlier today.
On March 13, Fadillah announced that the MADANI Government had successfully resolved nine claims related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) so far, marking significant progress in addressing longstanding issues between the federal and state governments.
Turning to the Ihya Ramadan Camp, Fadillah praised the programme's role in shaping the character of Muslim teenagers, emphasising its importance in nurturing noble values.
“Since its inception in 2013, the Ihya Ramadan Camp has become a vital platform for moulding the personalities of teenagers through the appreciation of Ramadan. A good heart encourages us to do good deeds,” he said in a post on X.
Fadillah also highlighted the significance of strengthening the hearts, minds, and emotions of young people in today’s digital age, where many have found success as entrepreneurs and content creators using technology.
"In this digital era, numerous young people have succeeded in becoming entrepreneurs and content creators through technology. We must therefore focus on strengthening our hearts, emotions, and minds, so we can use every opportunity with knowledge and wisdom," he added.
The Deputy Prime Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Petra Jaya, reaffirmed his support for programmes that promote education and skill development. He stressed the importance of incorporating modern technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and Big Data to enhance administration and societal well-being.
“Hopefully, initiatives like this will continue to thrive and bring long-term benefits,” Fadillah added. – March 16, 2025
