THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today arrested the Director-General and Deputy Director-General of the Department of Environment to assist investigations into the e-waste issue.
According to sources, both suspects were detained at around 6.30pm after appearing to give statements at the MACC Headquarters in Putrajaya.
“The investigation is being conducted based on allegations of abuse of power and corruption related to electronic waste (e-waste) management which are believed to have occurred in recent years,” said a source.
MACC Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, confirmed the arrests and informed that the investigation is being conducted thoroughly and professionally in accordance with the provisions of the law. He also stressed that MACC will not compromise with any party involved in corrupt acts, regardless of position or position.
This case is being investigated under the provisions of the MACC Act 2009 and further developments will be announced from time to time. – January 29, 2026
