The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a former company manager on suspicion of submitting fraudulent employment contracts to secure foreign worker quotas valued at RM77 million. The arrest, made in Putrajaya, took place around 6 pm yesterday while the suspect, a man in his early 40s, was giving a statement at the MACC office.
According to MACC sources, the suspect is part of a larger scheme involving seven directors and four companies. These individuals are alleged to have applied for foreign worker quotas at the Labour Department using falsified documents. The fraudulent activity reportedly occurred in 2022 and involved the submission of approximately 25 fake employment contracts with an estimated value of RM77 million.
The detained suspect will be held in remand for seven days starting today to facilitate further investigations. MACC Special Operations Division senior director Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman confirmed the arrest and noted that the case is being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009. This section pertains to the offense of soliciting or receiving gratification, which includes bribery and corruption.
Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman also stated that the MACC is actively tracing several other individuals believed to be connected to the case. These individuals are expected to assist in the investigation as the MACC seeks to uncover the full extent of the fraudulent activities.
The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by the MACC to clamp down on corruption and fraud within Malaysia. The use of fake documents to obtain foreign worker quotas not only undermines legal processes but also impacts the integrity of the country's labor market. By addressing such offenses, the MACC aims to uphold transparency and fairness in employment practices.
This case serves as a reminder of the severe consequences for those engaged in corrupt practices. The MACC continues to pursue those involved in fraudulent activities, reinforcing its commitment to eradicating corruption and maintaining the rule of law. The investigation is ongoing, and further developments are expected as more individuals are brought in for questioning.
