Terengganu exco member detained by MACC on suspicion of abusing his position to secure jobs for his sons at state-linked companies

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a Terengganu state executive councillor (exco) on suspicion of abusing his position.

The man, in his 60s, was detained at 11.15 am today after giving a statement at the MACC office in Kemaman.

A source said the suspect is believed to have used his position as an exco and chairman of a company’s board of directors to direct that his two sons be employed.

The alleged offences are said to have occurred in 2018 and 2020, with the sons hired at two different state government-linked subsidiary companies.

Terengganu MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid confirmed the arrest when contacted.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, with charges expected to be filed soon.
