THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has not received any formal report regarding claims of a RM2.1 billion overspend by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development.
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman stated that the anti-graft body is only aware of the issue through news reports and has yet to receive an official complaint.
“Under the present circumstances, we have only read about it through the mass media. There has been nothing official so far. Therefore, I do not think it is appropriate for me to comment. Once the matter is officially lodged with us, we will certainly step in to investigate,” he said during a press conference following MACC's 59th Anniversary Celebration and Monthly Assembly today.
The clarification comes after media reports highlighted calls by DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng urging the MACC to investigate the ministry over the alleged RM2.1 billion overspending.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, previously maintained that the ministry would not spend beyond its approved government allocations, emphasizing that all expenditure strictly aligns with budget figures and official approvals. - October 1, 2026
