The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained an enforcement officer and two other personnel on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes to dismiss a fraud case.

According to a MACC source, the three individuals, two men, and one woman, were apprehended during an operation conducted from 6 pm to midnight on Wednesday in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

"Initial investigations revealed that the complainant approached the enforcement officer to secure the release of his wife, who had been arrested on July 8 on suspicion of fraud. The officer directed the complainant to another enforcement personnel, who acted as an intermediary and demanded approximately RM20,000 in bribes through this middleman," the source stated in a press release today.

The complainant proceeded to provide an advance of RM20,000 in two separate transactions to the intermediary, who allegedly shared the amount with the officer and another enforcement personnel.

The MACC source also confirmed that all three suspects have been remanded for further investigation.

In a related development, Kuala Lumpur MACC Director Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Husin confirmed the arrests, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009. This section deals with the offense of soliciting or receiving gratification as an inducement or reward for doing or forbearing to do any act in relation to the principal's affairs or business.

These arrests underscore the MACC's ongoing efforts to combat corruption within enforcement agencies. The operation highlights the importance of maintaining integrity and accountability among officers tasked with upholding the law. The case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences faced by those who engage in corrupt practices, further reinforcing the MACC's commitment to transparency and justice.

As investigations continue, the MACC aims to ensure that all individuals involved are held accountable, sending a strong message that corruption at any level will not be tolerated.
