The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has officially closed its investigation into former minister Datuk Dr Xavier Jayakumar, citing insufficient evidence to press charges.
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has completed its investigation into a case involving former minister Datuk Dr Xavier Jayakumar, with the Deputy Public Prosecutor deciding in 2024 to classify the case as “closed to keep” or Kemas Untuk Simpan (KUS) after finding insufficient evidence to charge him.
In a statement today, MACC said two investigation papers were opened in 2021 under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
It said the decision to close the case followed a comprehensive review of the information, documents and evidence obtained during the investigation.
“After investigations and scrutiny of the relevant facts, documents and evidence were carried out, the Deputy Public Prosecutor decided to classify the case as Kemas Untuk Simpan (KUS) in 2024 as there was insufficient evidence to charge Datuk Dr Xavier,” it said.
MACC said the duration of an investigation depended on the complexity of each case, as well as the time required to obtain, examine and verify relevant information and evidence.
The anti-graft agency also stressed that all investigations were conducted professionally and transparently, based on facts and evidence and without influence from any party.
“MACC urges all parties not to make any speculation or assumptions regarding the matter, as the investigation has been completed,” it said.
