MACC clarifies that a housing plot corruption suspect is a Felda committee chairman, not a Johor state government official.

JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has denied the involvement of state government administration members following yesterday’s arrest of an individual linked to corruption and abuse of power involving housing plot applications.

In a statement, the commission said the detained individual is the chairman of the 2nd Generation Housing Site Action Committee at Felda Tenggaroh 2 in Mersing.

“All parties are urged to refrain from speculating or spreading inaccurate information, especially involving state government officials or individuals,” it said.

MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said the commission remains committed to a professional, independent, and transparent investigation, adding that it will not compromise on acts of corruption or abuse of power.

Earlier today, Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor reportedly said that the state government would not compromise with any party seeking to exploit, deceive, or abuse their position for personal gain in matters related to public housing in the state.

MACC on Monday detained the suspect, a man in his 40s, for allegedly committing the offences between 2016 and 2025 by abusing his power to solicit about RM4,000 from each of 400 applicants, totalling around RM1.6 million.

The funds were allegedly used for personal purposes through bank withdrawals from the committee’s account with false invoices.
