MACC chief Azam Baki says deputy will handle clarifications on RM1.11 billion investment misappropriation probe linked to ex-minister
SEPANG: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki stated that any further clarifications regarding a probe into alleged misappropriation of investments totalling RM1.11 billion will be made by his deputy.
Azam said he had no updates on the investigation as the case had only recently been reported.
“My deputy will comment. Because this has just been reported, I have no updates about the matter… whether he has opened an investigation paper, who he wants to call up and so on. I don’t want to comment on this,” he told a media conference.
The MACC recently confirmed receiving reports on the alleged misappropriation linked to a former senior minister.
The reports were lodged by several non-governmental organisations.
Deputy Chief Commissioner Datuk Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya had previously said the MACC would scrutinise all reports received.
He stated the commission would determine if there were elements of corruption, misappropriation or abuse of power under the MACC Act 2009.
Follow-up actions include examining submitted documents and evidence before further investigation.
This will be conducted in line with the commitment to integrity and transparency in the probe.
