KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is facing challenges in its pursuit of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s son-in-law, Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan, as the country where he is believed to be hiding has no extradition agreement with Malaysia.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that Adlan, who is wanted over alleged misappropriation involving the registration, recruitment, and storage of biometric data of foreign workers, is currently in a Middle Eastern nation. However, he declined to reveal which country.
“That country does not have an extradition agreement with Malaysia.
“Efforts to track him (Adlan) are still ongoing, and we (MACC) took action yesterday. We also hope the Home Ministry will agree to our request to revoke his passport.
“We are also still in discussions with the country involved on ways to bring him back to Malaysia,” he was quoted saying by Sinar Harian after the Launch and Signing Ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MACC and the National Cooperative Organisation of Malaysia (Angkasa) here today.
Adlan, together with lawyer Mansoor Saat, had left Malaysia on May 17 and May 21, 2023, respectively. The duo are both wanted in relation to the biometric project, and in October last year, the then-Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed that red notice applications had been submitted to Interpol.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, Azam said MACC had taken fresh action in the corruption probe involving Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) and a sand mining concession.
This came after rumours surfaced that several individuals were recently called to MACC’s Putrajaya headquarters.
“I cannot reveal yet who these individuals are, but I can confirm that MACC has taken new action related to MBI,” he said, adding that the probe covers both corruption and money laundering. - September 10, 2025
