KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) opened new investigation papers in November last year against six individuals, five of whom are the family members of the late finance minister, Tun Daim Zainuddin.
This follows additional information provided by foreign enforcement agencies including those from the United Kingdom, the United States and Singapore, to the MACC in its ongoing investigation into Daim's wealth based on the Pandora Papers, the agency said in a statement today.
It said the papers were opened on Toh Puan Na’imah Abdul Khalid, Josephine Premla Sivaretnam and Daim’s four children, namely Asnida, Md Wira Dani, Muhammed Amir Zainuddin and Muhammed Amin Zainuddin.
The six investigation papers were opened on Nov 20, 2025 as part of ‘Ops Godfather’ to investigate possible offences under Section 23 and Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009, as well as Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA) 2001.
Section 23 of the MACC Act deals with the offence of using office or position for gratification, while Section 36 grants MACC the power to compel a person under investigation to declare their assets.
“Six investigation papers have been opened against them. All are being investigated for failing to fully declare their assets,” MACC’s statement said.
This follows their failure of the six to fully comply with notice requirements, including omissions involving the declaration of high-value assets and bank accounts.
Yesterday, the MACC said it was tracing the four children of the late Daim to assist in investigations and called on the public with relevant information to come forward.
Earlier today, Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said three of the former finance minister’s children sought by the MACC are currently overseas.
He said Immigration Department records showed that the three individuals had departed the country in late January and early this month.
MACC’s investigations into the Daim and Na’imah began in 2023, based on information in the Pandora Papers that were published in 2021.
Daim and wife Na’imah were charged in January 2024 with failure to comply with the MACC’s notice to declare their assets. They have claimed that the charges are an act of political persecution.
Daim, who died on November 13, was posthumously acquitted of the charge.
Na’imah is currently in a court challenge against MACC’s move to freeze their bank accounts and assets. - February 28, 2026
