MACC: Investigations into Anwar's alleged overseas bank accounts were completed in 2022

THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has taken note of viral content on the TikTok application over allegations against Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim claimed to have 20 overseas bank accounts including in Israel, as mentioned in a Parliament session in 2013.

"MACC would like to emphasise that an investigation into the allegations was conducted by the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) in 1999.

"The investigation found that there was no evidence or statements that could link him to any criminal offense of corruption or abuse of power at that time," it said in a statement.

The explanation of the investigation results was also stated in the sworn statement by Datuk Abdul Razak Idris, former Director of Investigations of the ACA, made in 2009.

For the record, WikiLeaks has also denied ever publishing any list of bank accounts belonging to Anwar as alleged during the Parliament session and reported in Harian Metro titled "Dah 5 tahun baru Wikileak nafi" dated 5 October 2018.

"MACC would like to remind all parties not to make any speculations that may mislead the public or affect the reputation of any individual without a valid basis.

The dissemination of unverified information can cause confusion and disrupt public order," read the statement.

MACC remains committed to conducting investigations independently, transparently and with integrity in accordance with the laws of the country. – September 26, 2025
